Crystal Starr  www.crystalstarr.deviantart.com/

Crystal Smith, a.k.a. Crystal Starr has been drawing since the day she could hold a pencil. Crystal's earliest influence was her grandmother who expressed her own passion through drawing birds and horses, impressing upon Crystal the beauty of art. When she was five she remembers announcing to the family that, "when I grow up, I'm going to be an artist." The response she received was a familiar one to many artists; she was told that "Artists Starve!" Despite her family's response she had a dream, and she was going for it. Throughout her school years teachers noticed the talent and passion, displaying her art on classroom walls, and consistently encouraging her to develop her talents.

Chronic mental illness, as well as other struggles dulled Crystals will to draw, so at the young age of seventeen she gave it up. Instead, she started a family, and became consumed with the responsibilities of life. It wasn't until she  to Austin, TX two years ago that she picked up the pencils again. Austin's creative community and the people she was meeting inspired her to re-awaken her lost passion. Since then she has been drawing family, friends, and those beautiful people she meets, though everyone is beautiful she says. She enjoys drawing the human face the most, believing there is something mystical in illuminating every line, crinkle, and emotion expressed in the human eyes.

Along with a short interview you can find her on the cover of the October issue of Study Breaks, a magazine published for UT students.  She has been chosen for their, Express Yourself Austin's Top Artist contest (http://studybreaks.com/). She has also recently worked on various commission pieces for people throughout the Austin area. Recent move back to Seattle WA she is now taking on new commissions and seeking out new places to show. You can view more of her art at http://crystalstarr.deviantart.com/.
